In honor of Buffalo Police Officer Craig Lehner

Lehner, 34, was a nine-year member of the Buffalo Police force. He served in the K-9 Unit with his dog, Shield.

On October 13, 2017

Lehner went missing after a cable connecting him to other members of the dive team broke, leaving him in the water alone. Police and fire personnel from across the region and state searched for him but were unable to find him.

Lehner’s body was located on October 17, 2017 about  160 feet from shore, and taken to the foot of Porter Avenue. A procession of police vehicles transported him to Erie County Medical Center from there. Police officers and Buffalo firefighters lined the route down Porter Avenue, saluting the fallen officer.
